South Beach

Post-tension concrete slab scanning for structural integrity reassurance

Police Married Quarters Hong Kong

The Project

South Beach is a mixed-use development strategically located on the border of Singapore’s central business district, according to the South Beach Consortium. The development seamlessly blends four historic buildings on site with two new towers to feature offices, luxury residences, a designer hotel, retail spaces and an exclusive membership club.

One of South Beach’s unique eco-friendly features is its microclimatic canopy that extends throughout the development. The canopy is engineered to harvest rainwater and is fitted with photovoltaic cells to convert solar energy into electricity. Winner of two Green Mark Platinum Awards, the development’s green efforts are further supported by its good orientation, high-performance glass façade and extensive sky gardens which help to absorb heat and maintain a high level of thermal comfort throughout the day. In addition, energy and water efficient fittings and certified green label building materials all contribute to South Beach’s commitment to being one of Singapore’s most environmentally conscious developments.

The Hilti Difference

Attaching façade elements such as glass and sun shades to the steel structural components of a building is a unique application requiring specialized anchoring products. The fastening aspect of fascia design can pose a variety of challenges that add to the complexities of the design, installation and post-construction phases of the build. On the South Beach project, Hilti cast-in anchor channels were used to secure the building’s curtain wall to the reinforced concrete structure. Hilti field engineers also showed the project engineer the benefits of utilizing PROFIS Anchor Channel to quickly design an efficient solution for the project. The project engineer was able to use PROFIS Anchor Channel to optimize the design with the smallest sized channels while still minimizing the edge distance for the contractor.

Product Spotlight

Hilti Anchor Channel (HAC) is a cast-in anchoring solution for façade attachment to steel framed buildings. The innovative V-shaped design provides high load resistance and allows for designing at close edge distances while the special inner profile of the product allows for the use of one bolt type for all channel types from HAC-40 to HAC-70. Additionally, the protective foam insert and end-caps seal the channel to help prevent entry from concrete slurry during the slab pouring stage. It is easy to integrate Hilti Anchor Channel into your design as the cast-in façade attachment solution is ICC-ES approved in accordance with AC232 for cracked concrete and seismic conditions. Start designing your next façade project with the help of our complimentary PROFIS Anchor Channel software and see how easy designing with HAC can be!.
