The Effects of Fire on Post-installed Rebar Connections (REB204) - Seminar

Understanding the impact of fire on structural building components is key for the structural engineers to design safer and more resilient structures. For concrete and masonry structures, engineers can use ACI/TMS 216.1 Code Requirements for Determining Fire Resistance of Concrete and Masonry Construction Assemblies to examine how cast-in building structural elements will be affected by exposure to the high temperatures of a fire. In this session, we will discuss how engineers can account for these fire and high heat conditions in their post-installed reinforcing bar designs for concrete-to-concrete connections. We will also review the new optional fire load test included in the Acceptance Criteria for Post-installed Adhesive Anchors in Concrete Elements (AC308) and discuss how constant or variable temperature gradients within the concrete base material may impact development lengths and adhesive selection. - Seminar
