Hi, I am looking to design anchors to fasten a timber ledger to a solid 8" clay brick wall. Do you have any software that can help me with this? Is there something you would recommend? The ledger is a 2x10 and will likely have two (2) HILTI anchors @ 16" o/c. Each set of anchors will see a max factored load of 1600 lbs.
Thanks
Hello Giovanni,
Hilti offers a very helpful tool: PROFIS Engineering, where you can build your own design using all of Hilti's anchor portfolio and simulate its load resistance following multiple parameters.
The standard version is free to use but you can upgrade to the Premium version for additional features. I have included How To videos as well if you want to explore further.
Please note, Hilti as the manufacturer does not offer design services and our team cannot make design decisions or make product selection decisions, however we’d be more than happy to point you in the right direction when selecting our anchors for attaching timber to clay brick/masonry. Firstly, due to our wide range of anchor solutions, we recommend exploring our anchor selector charts as they are useful in exploring and comparing our entire portfolio :
To help narrow your search, you can explore the HIT-HY 270, which is our most common masonry adhesive. I have linked our published technical data and approval documents below for your review:
- The fast cure masonry adhesive HIT-HY 270:
- Technical Data starting on page 175 of the Anchor Fastening Technical Guide (ASD Design Method).
- Technical Data starting on page 33 of the Masonry Anchoring Design Guide (LRFD Design Method).
- Technical Data for HAS threaded rod in HIT-SC starting on page 183.
- Ordering information on page 193.
- Approval document ICC-ES ESR 4144 for anchoring into unreinforced masonry.
- Approval document ICC-ES ESR 4143 for anchoring into masonry.
- Operating Instructions.
Ultimately, all design decisions would be at the discretion of the Engineer of Record on the project.
Thank you for the information.
I am familiar with the PROFIS program; however, did not see an option for brick as a base material. Am I missing something?
Thanks,
