Use of Hilti HIT 500 RE V3 for Post Tensioned Rock Anchors

Hello,

I am looking at installing post tensioned anchors into a small dam to increase sliding and overturning resistance. Our issue is that site access is limited and using conventional rock anchors with mortar would be difficult and costly due the typical hole diameters requiring use of drill rig. I can't seem to find any information on the appropriateness of using epoxy adhesive to anchor bars for post tensioning loads in rock. Due to the variability of base material, we would be testing all anchors after installation. My main concern is with the long term application of load on the epoxy-rock interface.

Hi,Hilti does not have additional documents and/or test data available for installing anchors into natural stone. To support the use of an engineering judgement when designing for a connection into natural stone, we recommend reviewing thefollowing:Please see the attached University of Catania (Italy) 2014 study on the behavior ofpost-installed adhesive anchors in natural stone. Although the study dates back to 2014 it is still widely referenced by engineers in their design. We have seen HIT-RE 500 V3 considered for applications into natural stone in thepast and the study is shared in order to help you in the process of making anengineering judgement on your application.
