ACI 318-19 Chapter 26 defines method of installation as a key parameter that needs to be evaluated during the design of adhesive anchors due to the potential impact on bond strength. Installation methods such as hammer drilling or core drilling can correspond to different bond capacities used in design and adhesive sensitivity to hole preparation and cleanliness corresponds to varying strength reduction factors relating to reliability of the adhesive. - series

Structural strengthening of an existing concrete structure using shear dowels is a primary application for post-installed rebar. Though this is commonly done to improve performance of concrete slabs and structures experiencing earthquake and seismic loads, it can also be used for renovations where the design loads of a structure have increased. In this session, we will review the shear friction design provisions of ACI 318 Chapter 22 and discuss alternative research-based design methods to resist the interface shear across the shear plane in concrete-to-concrete connections. - series

Post-installed rebar for a structural joint is often used to extend, rehabilitate, and strengthen existing concrete structures. Post-installed rebar for structural joints can be used in multiple types of construction such as concrete bridges, commercial high-rises, school buildings, water treatment facilities, or other common civil or structural engineering structures. In this session, we will review the design provisions in ACI 318 Chapter 17, 22, and 25 that can be utilized for post-installed rebar in structural joint connections. In addition, we will discuss alternative research-based design methods for concrete-to-concrete connections that exist to support engineers in scenarios where their application design does not fit into the model code design provisions. - series

The design methodology for anchorage into masonry base materials is evolving from an Allowable Stress Design (ASD) method to Load & Resistance Factored Design (LRFD) method. With recent changes to the Acceptance Criteria 58 for Post-Installed Anchorage into Masonry, manufacturers must qualify and provide technical data for LRFD design method. In this session, we will discuss the changes in Acceptance Criteria 58, review the various design considerations for LRFD calculations into masonry, and walk-through a design example. - On-Demand

Whether you are attaching a ledger angle, handrail, or signage, there are various applications that require post-installed anchorage of elements to masonry base materials. In this session, we will discuss the various anchoring options available, and the design methods utilized for determining the capacity of post-installed anchors into different masonry base materials, such as concrete blocks, brick, clay tile, or stone. - On-Demand

Firestopping is a necessary component of building construction to protect lives and meet building code requirements. Correct installation is crucial to ensuring that firestop performs as intended in the event of a fire. Inspectors, building officials, engineers, architects, and contractors often need to perform firestop inspections, reviews, and walk-throughs to ensure requirements have been met. This course will help attendees understand the requirements of correct firestopping and to be able to recognize indicators of proper or poor installation. Common applications, challenges, and best practices will also be reviewed. - series

The 2020 NBC, issued in Spring 2022, includes over a dozen major changes related to the firestop requirements. This seminar will review in detail the new and revised code sections. These changes provide significantly improved clarity and precision on how to restore the integrity of a rated floor or wall assembly where penetrations and joints are present. The seminar will additionally cover the newly detailed fire resistance “continuity” requirements for the edge-of-slab gap between a fire rated floor and a normally non-rated curtain wall. - On-Demand

Without proper training, anchor installation can be challenging, with many opportunities for errors to arise that could reduce the capacity of the connection. CSA A23.3-19 Annex D now mandates that engineers include installation and design parameters within their specifications. This presentation will focus on code requirements, common jobsite issues, and strategies to help mitigate the risks of poorly installed anchors to protect your design.

Building upon "An Overview of Façade Design for Architects", this presentation dives deeper into façade design for achieving high performing perimeter joints and fire protection between fire-rated floor assemblies and non-rated exterior curtain walls. Through this course, you will gain insight into the effects of fire on common façade construction elements, understand the current test standards, and review the performance of common fire protection solutions for perimeter fire protection applications. This course will also analyze challenging façade applications which require specific design and installation attention and methods to help prevent fire passage at perimeter joints. - series
