Safety

General safety rules

  • Check the condition of the tool before use. If damaged, have the tool repaired by Hilti Service.
  • Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when working. Do not use the device while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating the device can result in serious personal injury.
  • Comply with national health and safety requirements.
  • Keep children and other persons away from your working area while the device is in use.
  • Do not expose the product to rain or moisture. Penetrating moisture can cause short circuits, electrical shock, burns or explosions.
  • Do not render safety devices ineffective and do not remove information and warning notices.
  • After falling from considerable height, the tool should be checked for correct, accurate operation.
  • Keep the detection area clean to avoid measurement errors. Do not touch the detection area with your fingers.
  • Handle the tool carefully.
  • Allow the tool to dry before putting it into storage.
  • Readings taken in the vicinity of reflective objects or surfaces, through panes of glass or similar materials can falsify the result of measurement.
  • Make sure that the device is positioned on a stable surface where it is not exposed to vibration.
  • Make sure that no other laser measuring tool that can influence your measurements is in use in the vicinity.
  • Do not work with surveyor's staffs in the vicinity of high-voltage electricity cables.
  • Make sure that the device can acclimatize whenever it is moved from a very cold to a very warm environment or vice versa.
  • Note that when two or more lasers are used in the same working zone, the laser receiver can detect only one laser source at a time.
  • Do not hold the laser receiver close to your ears. The volume of the laser receiver can cause injury and hearing loss.

Electrical safety

  • Keep the batteries out of reach of children.
  • Do not expose the batteries to high temperatures, direct sunlight or fire. Do not disassemble, crush or incinerate the batteries and do not expose them to temperatures above 80 °C; toxic substances can be released.
  • Do not attempt to charge batteries that have suffered mechanical damage or been dropped, or that evince signs of damage. In this case, contact Hilti Service.
  • Do not charge the batteries.
  • Do not solder the batteries into the tool.
  • Do not discharge the batteries by short-circuiting. The batteries may get hot, presenting a risk of personal injury (burns).
  • Do not attempt to open the batteries and do not subject them to excessive mechanical stress.
  • Make sure that the batteries are correctly installed in the device.
  • There is a possibility that the batteries are damaged if they are too hot. In this case, keep the device well away from flammable materials and place it where it can be kept under observation and can cool down. In this case, contact Hilti Service.
  • Strong magnetic fields can impair the accuracy of the device. Consequently, make sure that no objects that can create magnetic fields are in the vicinity of the laser receiver.

Electromagnetic compatibility

Although the device complies with the strict requirements of the applicable directives, Hilti cannot entirely rule out the possibility of interference to the device caused by powerful electromagnetic radiation, possibly leading to incorrect operation. Check the accuracy of the device by taking measurements by other means when working under such conditions, or if you are unsure. Likewise, Hilti cannot rule out the possibility of interference with other devices (e.g. aircraft navigation equipment).

Intended use

The product is a laser receiver. It is designed to detect laser beams from line lasers.

Laser receivers digitally indicate the distance between the marking plane on the laser receiver and the position at which the laser beam (laser plane) strikes the detection area.
The tool and its ancillary equipment may present hazards when used incorrectly by untrained personnel or when used not as directed.
Modification of the tool is not permitted.
Observe the information printed in the operating instructions concerning operation, care and maintenance.
Take the influences of the surrounding area into account. Do not use the device where there is a risk of fire or explosion.

Operation

Switching on and off

  • Press the on/off button to switch the device on or off.

Working with the receiver

  • The PMA 32 receiver can be used at distances of up to 30 m (98.4 ft) from the laser tool. The laser beam is indicated visually and by a signal tone.
The range of the laser receiver might be restricted on account of the design-related asymmetry of the laser power and possible disruptive external light sources.
To optimize the range, work on a strong side of the line laser and avoid working in direct light. The strong sides are the rear, where the battery is mounted, and the opposing front.

Working with the horizontal line

  • Position the PMA 32 receiver in the laser beam with the detection area at right angles to the line plane.
Results may be inaccurate if the receiving window is not held at right angles to the projected plane of the line.

Working with the vertical line

  1. Check that the vertical line is projected at right angles to the wall (or working surface).
Results may be inaccurate if the vertical line is not projected at right angles to the wall or working surface.
  2. Switch the PMA 32 receiver on by pressing the on/off button.
  3. Position the PMA 32 receiver in the laser beam with the detection area at right angles to the line plane.
Results may be inaccurate if the receiving window is not held at right angles to the projected plane of the line.

Adjusting the volume

  • Repeatedly press the "Volume" button to set the desired volume.

Inserting the batteries in the laser receiver

  • Make sure that battery polarity is correct.
  • Changes all the batteries at the same time.
  • Use only batteries that have been manufactured in accordance with international standards.
