Can you firestop a metallic pipe embedded in a wall lengthwise?

According to UL Guide "a metallic pipe may pass through the opening in the wall or floor assembly at any angle, provided the annular space is maintained on both sides of the wall or floor assembly and all other specifications in the design are satisfied." Does this apply to a situation where the pipe is half way inside a wall lengthwise (technically 0/90 degrees angle) or is there a rule that prevents this from being a valid case for firestopping.
