I can find minimum steel thickness in HILTI literature for cold formed shapes, but cannot find if there is a maximum steel thickness or range of grades/hardness that limit the fastener. I need to attach a plywood diaphragm to 3/8" thick steel flanges of W-beams.

When it comes to fastening wood to steel applications, we recommend first exploring page 24 of the Direct Fastening Technical Guide as this will have information on the range of wood and steel thickness few of our fasteners have been tested in.

Furthermore, we recommend exploring our ICC-ES reports, ESR-1663 and ESR-2269 for information on testing performed on our fasteners.
