KH-EZ in hole through rebar

Can you install a KH-EZ screw anchor in a hole that was drilled through rebar with a 4-cutter bit?

Hi Olivier,

Thank you for reaching out with your question.

For proper anchor installation, our primary recommendation is to avoid any contact with existing rebar, particularly when using mechanical anchors, as interference could compromise the threads of the KH-EZ anchor.

In unique situations where avoiding rebar is challenging, we suggest considering an adhesive anchor solution. This approach minimizes the risk of rebar damaging the new anchor and ensures better overall performance.

One adhesive option we recommend for these scenarios is the HIT-RE 500 V3. If you’d like to review its published load capacities and installation parameters, please refer to Hilti's Anchor Fastening Technical Guide starting on page 139, and approval documents ICC-ES ESR 3814 and ICC-ES ELC 3814.

If you have any further questions, please reach out to CAtechnicalservices@hilti.com.
