Sustainability at Hilti

Building a better future

In a world full of challenges, the most powerful tool is the engagement of all of us. At Hilti, we want to contribute to a more sustainable way of life – for a world that is less burdened by our impact, for better health and safety in construction, and for a more equitable society.

Recovering used tools and giving them new purpose

Many Hilti tools still have years of life left in them when a customer returns or trades them in. We rescue 1,200 of these tools annually. After refurbishing them, they are donated to nonprofit organizations to assist in things like rebuilding efforts.

Recycling our tools

In the U.S. and Canada, we recover and recycle nearly 1 million pounds of tools a year. We recycle our tools as well as any competitive trade-ins we receive.

Battery recycling

Over 55,000 lbs. of batteries are recycled annually to help ensure these products don’t end up in landfills leaching chemicals and heavy metals into soil, groundwater, lakes and streams.

Minimizing disposal of damaged or expired chemical products

This begins with ensuring we cut waste before it starts by actively managing our product development process to avoid unnecessary production waste. Through an aggressive control program, Hilti has a scrap rate of 0.06 percent.

Green Building programs

Hilti offers over 100 products including firestop, adhesive anchors, mechanical anchors, direct fastening, screw fastening, and installation systems that qualify for credit on LEED V3, LEED V4, and Living Building Challenge Projects.

Our Sustainablilty Strategy

We understand sustainability to be securing long-term success through a business strategy that values environmental, people, and social aspects equally with economic factors.
